Far Away…..

Moon

Far Away ~

In a distant land I travel…

new sounds, new smells, new vistas

to grab the eye…to capture the heart anew

Yet the sun is same, the heat, its  glow,

The moon as it hangs like a bright bauble on a peg in the dark.

all its phases and it meanderings across the sky

the same.

This land, these people, these animals

they are not.

A new mystery, a new way of thinking to be discovered.

Yet the sand feels the same as I grab a fistful of it

and let it run on the wind.

There is an ancient history in it..

you can feel it in each grain that flies

through my fingers to be scattered

to the four corners.

Perhaps a grain will be captured on a thermal updraft,

and reach  heights to carry it across the globe

to  home.

To settle gently at your feet.

In silent company with you.

Art Auction coming up to support the Rhino

billys-checkered-photo

Hello friends, followers,  do-gooders.  I have a favor to ask of you.

Besides being  a part-time writer I also wear another hat.  That of Vice-President of Operations for Fight for Rhinos.  That is  a self-anointed title I had to apply to myself when signing on to the organization but one I take seriously.  Its my wife who does the real back-breaking work in regards to research, blogging,  networking, fundraising,  and brain storming with other conservationist to help the endangered Rhino from going extinct on this planet and NEVER coming back.

Can you believe it, an animal that has been around for 60 Millions years…basically  a living Fossil, may go extinct in less than 20 years all because its horn is valued more than that of gold.

I think its tragic…to me the possible extinction of the Rhino and I don’t say this lightly is a summation of man’s ignorance, apathy, pride  and arrogance  on this planet.

The earth is big,   YES very big.  But so is our egos to think we can’t hurt it irrevocably.

Now this is where my favor comes in.  It’s actually a small favor.

We have organized an Online Art Auction Charity in support of helping out with various on the ground Projects for the Rhino.  I am asking two things of you MY FOLLOWERS….:)

FIRST  –  GO CHECK IT OUT ….!  Its starts June 1st for bidding, but you can check out the pieces right now. Right   HERE .. Some are pretty cool and we still have more pieces from talented artists coming in to add to the collection. Some are high priced and some are low priced but all fairly priced for that artist’s work. There is even a piece of Art done by a Rhino….:)

SECOND – To garner interest in this Art Auction we are doing a Thunderclap campaign which is set to go BOOM on May 28th three days before  June 1st before the auction to enable us to reach almost a million people or more about the event. Basically the Thunderclap works like this.  You go to the site specifically for our event and click one of three social media sites you wish to broadcast our message through to your followers on that particular day. The three outlets are  Facebook, Twitter, or Tumblr  or you can do all THREE! (each one counts separately)  thunderclaplogo

We have a  goal of getting 250 people to sign up . RIGHT NOW we are at about 150 people….  We really need those other 100 people to make this work…..SO Please  ( I am now on my knees)  sign on to our THUNDERCLAP…it actually only takes a second to click it  and is completely safe btw regarding security and privacy.

Thank you very much.  I hope you take the time over this long weekend to help us out and the Rhino as well… 🙂

P.S I believe the Rhino is a Unicorn…a fat one but a Unicorn…:)

FigTreeCamp

I promised to tell you yesterday about what my wife what was doing on Day #9 and #10 of her trip to Kenya…

mara-cottars-maasai-lone-tree

She has traveled to the Masai Mara Game Reserve.  It is an extension of the Great Serengeti Plain  – its considered the most stunning game viewing spot in all of Kenya: lions, giraffes, zebras, elephants and other wildlife reside here.

Her tent sits right in the middle of the wildlife at the edge of  it all.

On Day #9 Hopefully she had a fun festive night attending a traditional Bush Dinner featuring a Masai Dance performance –

Today, day #10  she would have went out on full game drive and had a nice picnic lunch…and return just in time to the Masai Mara for sunset.

Here she is…! Day #9 and 10

Joseph and TIsha
Joseph, her Massai friend in Kenya with TIsha

FIRST OFFICAL PIC OF MY WIFE ON HER NATIVE SOIL OF AFRICA!….Well she would call it her native soil anyways…:)

Tisha visited one of her closest friends she met through Facebook who lives in Kenya.  His name is Joseph who is of the Maasai Tribe in Kenya.

Hey, it’s our Anniversary today Oct 20th,  and she’s on a date with another man…what gives!…:)

Notice the hat Joseph is wearing…yeah Tisha got that for him….she’s a big Detroit Tigers fan.

He came to visit her at the latest lodge she is staying at.  I will post on that topic tomorrow perhaps and let her as well, when  she returns with more pics…:)

Happy Anniversary Babe! Love ya!

Valley, Mountains, Lakes and Waterfalls… Day #7 and #8 of My Wife’s Kenya Safari

Great Rift Valley Lodge

I have recently been in contact with my wife indirectly and very briefly on Facebook when she arrived at her last location during  day #5 and 6 of her trip at the Mt. Kenya Safari Club.

She says she is doing good. Tired but good.  And she told me she had an incident with a monkey.  Incident with a Monkey!!  WTH!   But that’s all I got. No story…guess we will have to wait until she gets back to hear the rest.

GreatRiftValleyLodgeA

NOW she has traveled onto the Great Rift Valley.  And this thing is big…I’m talking 3,000 Miles long extending from Israel and through Kenya to end in Mozambique to the south.

In addition, her location in Kenya puts her at the higest point where the Rift runs at  6,000 Feet high.

She is staying at the aptly named Great Rift Valley Lodge… and she seems to be getting spoiled…AGAIN. Where the hells the roughing coming in it yet?  Now I’m not asking her to run out in the wild  stripped to her bare nothings to find the nearest cave torub two sticks together for warmth.  Well that would be an experience….hmmmm.

I will give her a  break…she has been roughing it enough already I’m sure…she needed this.

So with out further adieu check out some of the area she will be exploring in the Great Rift Valley.

Now she’s just getting Spoiled – Day#5 & 6 of RhinoGirl’s Trip to Kenya

view-from-side

Fairmount Mt. Kenya Safari Club – That’s where my wife  is at this very moment.  And holy shit! She’s  kicking back in luxury…!  What the Hell…

Mount_Kenya_opulent_tours

I’m sitting on my couch eating pizza watching the rain come down in 55 Degree weather…and she’s here.  DAMMIT all.

Just kidding ,,,but look at this place.  It’s a sprawling luxurious mansion smack dab in the middle of nowhere surround by tons of wildlife. Seemingly lots of giraffes must blanket the place looking at the next picture below I’m guessing.

Girafee

I also did a little research and it says this place used to be the once private retreat of actor, William Holden back in the day. He used it as a hunting lodge and retreat.  ( Booooooooooooooooo! )

I think it’s ironic (is ironic the right word)  now that its used for Safari goeers to stay and  only SHOOT pictures instead of guns. I like that they are giving back to the area with their tourist dollars instead of taking a “prize”  home with them.

The original intent of the place has changed for the better.  So kudos to progress in Kenya for that.

Safari Club

SO I am sure my wife  is resting comfortably  here.  Because that what this place  is for, a little way station on the dusty road where you can sleep in a good bed and sit by the pool and look out at MT. Kenya and sip some wine.

BUT my wife never relaxes you see. Before she left for Kenya she set up a meeting with a place called Ol Pejeta Conservancy in the local area for an interview for her Blog she writes. She did tons of emailing and calling and corresponding to get this set up.

She got the email from the director just two days before she left to go to Kenya that the meeting was a go.  It’s a big coup to go there and do what she will be doing.

But I won’t  say anymore. I  will let her tell you the whole story  when she returns with pictures and the interview she conducted with the staff there who do great things for the Rhino. I will tell you this, for her it’s like walking on the moon with who and what she gets to meet there.

So long story short, she won’t be resting and kicking back much…right now I can picture her sitting up in bed  running through her interview questions for tomorrow’s meeting at the place.

May you have grand time tomorrow my dear.

Where in the World is my wife – Day#2 and #3

I have been keeping an eye on my wife’s 14-DAY Itinerary while in Kenya and I have to assume she touched down safely in Nairobi yesterday,  Sunday at 9;20 pm Kenya Time  (1:20pm our time) . Because I cannot get in contact with her whatsoever…I think she’s avoiding me…ha!

The first night there  she stayed a hotel in Nairobi.  Now she has already set off for her first stop in Kenya.

The Samburu Reserve.  See Pics below –  I Found a map of the reserve along with  pictures of the accommodations she may be staying in there….

Intrepid camp

I’m sure she’s loving it amongst the African wildlife.  I am sure she will bring back actual pics of her stay at each place she’s stays…

She is only staying at this place for a couple of days..then it’s on to the next place…:)
