October – A Poem

October ~

Warms winds turn cold…
as the leaves turn a
bright gold,
then fall.

Wind and Leaf comingle
and do a dance
under a harvest moon
while everyone sleeps.

The old magic has returned

Can you feel it?

A crackle of electricity in
the air flows, as a tingle
draws the hair
away from skin.

Breathe it in….all the dark
sins, laid dormant
come up from their slumber
for their is unrest in them

Dare you walk the night?

Things lurk you know.
Eyes open, grins wide
Waiting in the woods for
you to simply walk
on by.

Your heart feels the thrill
Its a knowing, deeper than
a dried out old well,

October, one of my best friends
has finally come home.

Krampus Comes !! – A Dark Christmas poem

Krampus
Art by Brom

Be ye, young or old,

as a child of nine or ninety-nine

We all look to the magical time

when ol’ St. Nick comes a calling,

that jolly grey bearded man with a smile for all.

Traveling down the road  in his horse drawn sled

from  late dusk to early dawn.

The good ones know they’ll be visited by him,

adorned and wreathed with gifts from

head to toe.

They will sleep a peaceful slumber, full

of dreams of the bright morning to come

and the presents they so richly deserve

from a year of being so very very good.

I am afraid some may not be so inclined

at this joyous holiday time to partake of

all this festive cheer.

For you see, there are some children who lay deep in their

covers under the shadow of night as it plays

through their cold window pane,

waiting for him to come,

St. Nicks dark brother, the Other,

called Krampus to some.

This dark horned,  hairy tailed, cloven hooved creature

knows your heart of hearts

and all the naughty things you’ve done.

And he is not forgiving like

good ol’ St. Nick.

With bundled birch sticks in hand

he will greet you with a sharped tooth grin

right before he lays into your

skin,

To beat you about the legs and arms,

a sweet painful present for all your

year’s sins and wicked charms.

Then if you have been especially bad

and you know who you are.

He will take down his big black

ruck sack from upon  his back

Open it up, grab you up

and stuff you in.

Then quick out the bedroom window

he flies to disappear down the dark road

with you never to be seen

by your family

ever again.

Best movies to put you into the Spirit of Halloween

My friend  and fellow blogger of mine Seth over at Kloipy Speaks posted a blog about 10 things to get you in the Mood for Halloween..so I thought I would post my top Five  favorite HalloweenThemed –  Kid Friendly (well maybe semi-kid friendly for some) to Adult Horror Movies that I like or have liked to watch with my  family around Halloween :

5. Ernest Scared Stupid:

Yes as the title says Ernest is stupid but it’s fun scary stupid. When I first saw this movie I didn’t expect it to be as scary as it was…but it was. Yes it’s slaptstick at times but there are moments when it can rival any A rated Horror flick for sheer mood and delivery of a good scare…especially for a young kid. Good starter for a  8-10yr old kid that you plan on priming for the serious stuff down the line ..our kid is so used to horror flicks it takes alot to scare him now and this is where it all started,

4. The Halloween Tree:

 :

A great animated feature based on Ray Bradbury’s little epic worldwind and time traveling adventure story about Halloween. I loved  Leonard Nimoy as the voice of Profesor Mound Shround the devious dealer of young childrens souls. Great for kids starting at 6yrs to adult and you might just learn a little real history about witches, mummies, gargoyles, and the Day of the Dead along the way. Great little story about friendship and sticking together.

3. Halloween (The Original):

Okay okay this is really not  kid friendly movie, it’s more like Teenager friendly, in this day in age of Horror it’s definitely PG-13 in comparison. A nice solid thriller horror set on the day of Halloween…it makes you want to lock your doors and not give out any more candy! Don’t think I need to explain this one much to people. Just enjoy it and then maybe follow it up  with Halloween 2 which happens on that same night.

2. The Crow:

Okay I’m cheating here a little, this movie actually leads up to Devil’s night, the night before Halloween…but’s one of my favorites. A soul brought back to our plane of existence to exact revenge on those who murdered him and his wife…A classice movie which never grow old for me….I love the line in the movie “It can’t rain all the time.”

1. Peanuts – Halloween:

You know I had to go with the tried and true Charlie Brown Halloween Special. Who doesn’t love –  The Great Pumpkin,  All I got was a rock line, Snoopy shot down behind enemy lines sneaking through the battelfield (till he ends up in the Pumpkin Patch)

Good stuff…..the witching Hour is upon us my friends so enjoy….:)

It’s October – my Faaaaaaaaaaaaaavorite month of the year! What are you going to be on Halloween?

I do bake  a killer Pumpkin pie.   But I do not wear this outfit above while doing it…not a  pretty site. Now my wife has been known to wear many a risque outfits….she could definitely pull off the one above.

That’s my lead in to my next question….DOES ANYONE PLAN ON WEARING A COSTUME THIS YEAR AND GO TO A PARTY OR TAKE YOUR LITTLE ONES FOR A WALK IN THE STREETS TO BEG FOR CANDY?

Cuz my wife and I live for any  chance to wear a costume on Halloween.

We have been James Dean & Marilyn Monroe, Vintage Baseball Players, Wonder Woman & Superman/Clark Kent,1970’s Couple, Zombies, Crazed Scarecrow and a Cat, Stranded Space Alien,Family of Vampires (son got in on this one),The Carnival Master in Something Wicked this Way Comes, Monster from The Village Movie, etc

This year what are we are going to be?  We will probably be rehashing the James Dean and Marilyn Monroe costumes we still have….they were fun.. perhaps I will be James Dean after the accident…still deciding on that one…:)

That leads to another question. What costumes have you worn in the past or have ever wished to wear but never have?

Any embarrassing Halloween stories to share?

Ever  been chased by Bigfoot on Halloween?  I have.  That’s a story for another day…

Every year WE  buy the pumpkins…WE draw the faces on them and then I cut them open  and then I  scoop out the brains and do all the work…cuz it’s just to gross to stick your hand in something so sticky …(we won’t go there pervs)

Us as James Dean and Marilyn from a few years back…
