There are certain songs that you must
listen to the words,
really listen,
while others songs
you can simply tap
a foot to and let your
soul get lost in the rhythm of.
People are like that also;
you either get lost in them
or sit and listen,
really listen, and both ways
are equally important.
I have heard that Melody
in music is dying,
stripped down
to either Harmony,
Rhythm, or Tone.
Using only 3 Notes,2,1, or None
to get the job done
and feed the
hungry masses.
People still love the
new music though.
I have at times.
It’s got a good beat
and you can dance to it
and might have
something clever
to deliver
that clicks into
you gently.
But most of it’s shit
cuz there’s
no flow
up and down the scale
flirting
with the emotional
peaks and valleys
of the soul
pulling something
out of you
involuntarily
beyond your control.
Now, most of it feels
recycled, overused
or too simple
like your ABCs
I don’t wish for Melody
to die
I wish for it to thrive
and come alive
So maybe, just maybe
it’ll jumpstart
my heart and reawaken
the Melody in me.
I just wanna get your attention
I really wanna be all up in your head
Cause when I got you’re gonna wanna get some yeah
But girl that’s only if you ain’t scared
And I won’t knock or ring no bells
You just poke that bottom up in the air
I’ll get you hot, I know you oh so well
And when I’m walk in, all that I wanna hear
Is you say Daddy’s home, Daddy’s home for me
And I know you’ve been waiting for this loving all your day
You know your daddy’s home (daddy’s home)
And it’s time to play (so it’s time to play)
So you ain’t got to give my loving away
So all my ladies say hey hey hey daddy
Hey hey hey daddy
So all my ladies say hey hey hey daddy
Hey hey hey daddy
I ain’t gotta do a lot of flexin’
Shorty you already know what it is
And girl tonight we’re gonna do a lot of sexin’
Can’t nobody do your body like this oh
I won’t knock or ring no bells
You just float that bottom up in the air
Said I’ll get you hot, I know you oh so well
and when I walk in all that I wanna hear
Is you say Daddy’s home, home for me
And I know you’ve been waiting for this lovin’ all day
You know your daddy’s home (daddy’s home)
It’s time to play (so it’s time to play)
So you ain’t got to give my loving away
So all my ladies say hey hey hey daddy (daddy know what you like)
Hey hey hey daddy
So all my ladies say hey hey hey daddy
Hey hey hey daddy
Poke it on out poke it out right there
I’m a fall back while you work that chair
Do that damn thing let the neighbors hear
Poke it on out poke it out right there
I’m a fall back let you work that chair
Do that damn thing all I wanna hear
Is you say Daddy’s home, home for me
And I know you’ve been waiting for this lovin’ all day
You know your daddy’s home (daddy’s home)
It’s time to play (so it’s time to play)
So you ain’t got to give my loving away
Daddy’s home, home for me
And I know you’ve been waiting for this love in your day
You know your daddy’s home (daddy’s home)
It’s time to play (so it’s time to play)
So you ain’t got to give my loving away
So all my ladies say hey hey hey daddy
Hey hey hey daddy (call me daddy babe)
So all my ladies say hey hey hey daddy
Hey hey hey daddy
Hey daddy know what you like yeah
You could say I lost my faith in science and progress
You could say I lost my belief in the holy Church
You could say I lost my sense of direction
You could say all of this and worse, but
If I ever lose my faith in you
There’d be nothing left for me to do
Some would say I was a lost man in a lost world
You could say I lost my faith in the people on TV
You could say I’d lost my belief in our politicians
They all seemed like game show hosts to me
If I ever lose my faith in you
There’d be nothing left for me to do
I could be lost inside their lies without a trace
But every time I close my eyes I see your face
I never saw no miracle of science
That didn’t go from a blessing to a curse
I never saw no military solution
That didn’t always end up as something worse, but
Let me say this first
If I ever lose my faith in you
There’d be nothing left for me to do
Now I lay me down not to sleep
I just get tangled in the sheets
I swim in sweat three inches deep
I just lay back and claim defeat
Chapter read and lesson learned
I turned the lights off while she burned
So while she’s three hundred degrees
I throw the sheets off and I freeze
Lids down, I count sheep
I count heartbeats
The only thing that counts is
That I won’t sleep
I countdown, I look around
Who needs sleep?
(well you’re never gonna get it)
Who needs sleep?
(tell me what’s that for)
Who needs sleep?
(be happy with what you’re getting
There’s a guy who’s been awake
Since the Second World War)
My hands are locked up tight in fists
My mind is racing filled with lists
Of things to do and things I’ve done
Another sleepless night’s begun
Lids down, I count sheep
I count heartbeats
The only thing that counts is
That I won’t sleep
I countdown, I look around
Who needs sleep?
(well you’re never gonna get it)
Who needs sleep?
(tell me what’s that for)
Who needs sleep?
(be happy with what you’re getting
There’s a guy who’s been awake
Since the Second World War)
Who needs sleep?
(well you’re never gonna get it)
Who needs sleep?
(tell me what’s that for)
Who needs sleep?
(be happy with what you’re getting
There’s a guy who’s been awake
Since the Second World War)
There’s so much joy in life,
So many pleasures all around
But the pleasure of insomnia
Is one I’ve never found
With all life has to offer,
There’s so much to be enjoyed
But the pleasures of insomnia
Are ones I can’t avoid
Lids down, I count sheep
I count heartbeats
The only thing that counts is
that I won’t sleep
I countdown, I look around
Who needs sleep?
(well you’re never gonna get it)
Who needs sleep?
(tell me what’s that for)
Who needs sleep?
(be happy with what you’re getting
There’s a guy who’s been awake
since the Second World War)
I’ll be the Earth to ground you
From the chaos all around
I’ll be the home you return to
I can be your middle ground
And I will serve as a reminder
If you jump you will not fall
Go on and spread those wings of reason
We are water after all
And if you call on me
I’ll come running like a coyote
Cause we’re pillars indeed
A lighthouse when you’re out to sea
A beacon when direction’s all I need
A compass if you know what I mean
Drunk on that nectar of all that you are to me
You can trust me in my instincts
‘Cause they are like that of a bird
I am loyal, I will feed you
And sing you songs you never heard
Who wants to wear the hat this morning
I reckon neither of us cares
Cause there is more to life than leading
And I would follow you I swear
And if you call on me
I’ll come running like a coyote
Cause we’re pillars indeed
A lighthouse when you’re out to sea
A beacon when direction’s all I need
A compass if you know what I mean
Drunk on that nectar of all that you are to me
I will always share my fire
Proper way to pay respects
Lay tobacco down in gratitude
One thing I cannot neglect
And there are eyes that watch us closely
And there’s a story they will tell
There’s a war ‘tween fact and fiction
We have no time to dispel
So familiar yet so foreign
Polaroids say so much
Bring me ceremony parallels
I’ll bring vetiver and sage brush
And if you call on me
I’ll come running like a coyote
‘Cause we’re pillars indeed
A lighthouse when you’re out to sea
A beacon when direction’s all I need
A compass if you know what I mean
Drunk on that nectar of all that you are to me
And I love your feet for how they found me
And how they walked upon four winds
Be my deer, I’ll be your meadow
Come graze upon Bear skin
“Seven Days” was all she wrote
A kind of ultimatum note
She gave to me, she gave to me
When I thought the field had cleared
It seems another suit appeared
To challenge me, woe is me
Though I hate to make a choice
My options are decreasing mostly rapidly
Well we’ll see
I don’t think she’d bluff this time
I really have to make her mine
It’s plain to see
It’s him or me
Monday, I could wait till Tuesday
If I make up my mind
Wednesday would be fine, Thursday’s on my mind
Friday’d give me time, Saturday could wait
But Sunday’d be too late
The fact he’s over six feet ten
Might instill fear in other men
But not in me, the mighty flea
Ask if I am mouse or man
The mirror squeaked, away I ran
He’ll murder me in time for his tea
Does it bother me at all
My rival is Neanderthal, it makes me think
Perhaps I need a drink
IQ is no problem here
We won’t be playing Scrabble for her hand I fear
I need that beer
Monday, I could wait till Tuesday
If I make up my mind
Wednesday would be fine, Thursday’s on my mind
Friday’d give me time, Saturday could wait
But Sunday’d be too late
Seven days will quickly go
The fact remains, I love her so
Seven days, so many ways
But I can’t run away
I can’t run away
Monday, I could wait till Tuesday
If I make up my mind
Wednesday would be fine, Thursday’s on my mind
Friday’d give me time, Saturday could wait
But Sunday’d be too late
(Sunday’d be too late)
Sunday’d be too late
Do I have to tell a story
Of a thousand rainy days since we first met
It’s a big enough umbrella
But it’s always me that ends up getting wet
You better watch what you say
You better watch what you do to me
Don’t get carried away
Girl, if you can do better than me
Go, yeah, go
But remember
Good love is hard to find
Good love is hard to find
You got lucky, babe
You got lucky, babe
When I found you
You put a hand on my cheek
And then you turn your eyes away
If you don’t feel complete
If I don’t take you all of the way
Then go, yeah, go,
But remember
