My Alchemy Persists

alchemy

I’m trying to capture

a lit bit of magic.

Distill out the mundane,

filter out the impurities,

and infuse a little energy

into this tired body and brain.

You have always been that

catalyst, that additive, that chemical,

or heat to speed the reaction.

Give me just a dash of you and

I will change this lead to gold

or this chunk of coal

to a diamond that

sparkles like your

eyes do.

Your kiss may be the final

ingredient  to the elixir of life

that I have long sought.

Oh how elusive that magic is

at being caught

and wrangled like

lightning in a bottle.

But I am an alchemist, and

with my books, my bottles, my studies

my mythos, my faith, and you…

I shall wrestle with the five mysteries of life;

air, earth, fire, water, and the

elusive aether…

and condense their natures down into

a malleable creature from which

I can ride with you into the night.

October – A Poem

October ~

Warms winds turn cold…
as the leaves turn a
bright gold,
then fall.

Wind and Leaf comingle
and do a dance
under a harvest moon
while everyone sleeps.

The old magic has returned

Can you feel it?

A crackle of electricity in
the air flows, as a tingle
draws the hair
away from skin.

Breathe it in….all the dark
sins, laid dormant
come up from their slumber
for their is unrest in them

Dare you walk the night?

Things lurk you know.
Eyes open, grins wide
Waiting in the woods for
you to simply walk
on by.

Your heart feels the thrill
Its a knowing, deeper than
a dried out old well,

October, one of my best friends
has finally come home.

They Call Her

They call her~falling-leaves-in-autumn

They call her autumn
because she
wraps around you
like a flurry of golden leaves
in a whirlwind

You WILL fall for her
simply because her
violent nature demands it
commands it.

A Tempest,
a wild child
which rides lightening
and flashes a grin that
fucking drives you
to your knees

Just try and stand against
the forces within her
and you will be taught
a cruel lesson about
natures full fury
once unleashed.

But autumn she is a beauty
a conundrum
a magical journey
if you be so bold to take it

Be you so bold?
To capture the surreal
and hold it close

Could you ever be so lucky?

autumn

This is chapter has been revised a few times but I am sure it will be revised again before its all done…:)

 The Fourth World

by PhilipWardlow

Calvin had always believed in magic. He didn’t care what anyone else thought. They could doubt all they wanted. There was a hidden world which we could not see sitting right in front of our faces, most everyone was too busy, too blind, or too stupid to see it. Calvin saw it in the trees as the distant winds kissed the leaves which flew through its branches. He spied it dancing in the fire amidst the embers at night; little tiny sprites hopping from log to log amidst the flames playing a game of tag. He smelled it in a wild rose growing in a crowded field of jostling weeds flinging its pheromones to attract the butterflies to alight upon its silken petals. He heard it in the babbling brook as the water played upon the rocks behind his home whispering to the frogs as it traveled on downriver. He felt it in the rough stone he caressed in the palm of his hand; an ancient power from ages past unearthed from the deep bowels of the earth from the crumbling’s of a mighty stone titan long dead. It was everywhere if they only choose to see. The magic spoke to him because he chose to listen and he almost understood what it is was saying…

Chapter 1 – Reality Sets In

Calvin tasted the blood that trickled down to his upper lip which flowed from his nose. It had a sweet metallic taste. He liked the taste of his own blood. Calvin wasn’t a weird person don’t get him wrong, he wasn’t into to that kind of stuff.  He just liked to sometimes pretend that he was Conan the Barbarian backed up against a wall, fighting an angry horde of ghoulish creatures hell bent on gutting him like a fish, and slowly eating his entrails as he watched. With sword in hand he would hack and slash, limbs would fly. He would be scratched all to hell and bleeding from a dozen different wounds and smiling insanely because this could be his last day alive so why not go out smiling like a true warrior would upon meeting his death well met in battle. Yeah, he liked to have his mind go to places like that rather than be anywhere than where he was right now. Continue reading The Fourth World – Chapter 1 – an Excerpt

Perishable

Perishable~

My finger, one finger
traces down her temple
over her sweet cheeked smilejar
eyes lighted
just for me
just for me…

So many emotions
behind that smile for me

I must take each of them that
I discover and put them in their own mason jar
and screw the lid down tight
for safe keeping.

To preserve
what surely will be lost.

For you see, we are all delicate
things.
Perishable.

This environment is not kind
to such fragile creatures.

But I wonder.
What is ever meant to last?

I reach for one of the mason jars
and take it down off upon the shelf,
unscrew its top, and tip
its’ contents into my waiting mouth.

I smile and reach for another.

October – A poem

October – October

The winds which whip

have a different flavor.

A taste, sweet

and fervent as a

caramel apple when

first bitten into.

The night shrouds more

treasures, unspoken

in shadows but implied

deep in your soul familiar

with such darkness.

Colors abound and break and burst,

escaping their confines of

staleness and tepid tones.

Never has this world been more alive,

more robust,

more rambling,

and shambling to and fro.

Unbounded and limitless

in scope and measure.

This time is the great mystery

come to call.

To hold magic in your hands

if only for the briefest instant

Until it finally

fades

away.

Another World – A Poem

WaterGirl

Another World –

Always a flash she is,

the light  of the moon catching her at times

when I am out upon the dark deep waters

of the great sea.

I remember locking eyes with her once.

Just once.

A look which pulled at my soul.

A look of wanting, a look

of yearning to approach,

to be seen, to be known,

to be not so alone in

the darkness

below.

Fortune to find me,

but fate made us all fools to believe.

She another life force

beating in an alien world.

Where she dwells, I cannot go, nor can she

venture out.

Locked away in the skittering

of the waves

below.

Just as I am locked in the salt stung air above

never to mingle

never to dance

never to share

a kiss as

the need arises.

The Night Entreats – 30 day Halloween Challenge A poem a day – Poem#5

CrowTree

The Night Entreats

The crows rested in the trees;

for the killing was all done and they

were full.

Their caws as they conversed,

sounded like laughter to my ear;

as if the murders they had committed

had been all in good fun.

The wind whistled in the trees

and nudged the dead leaves

to life across the road.

Brown and gold skittered like roaches

and hopped like bulbous toads

traveling in a disorganized parade

for the dead.

The bright moon held no warmth

for it worked with the cold wind

and played through the trees to

cast pale blue shadows upon me.

Figures of dark demons, witches, and imps

danced in front and behind as I  softly crept

lest they hear me trespass in their day they

called night as they played.

My step quickened as the wind seemed to thicken

and pushed at me like a hand on my back.

I grabbed myself against the chill which

ran deeper than it should this fall night.

This hallowed eve, it seemed, held more magic than ages

past, more power, more darkness than the last.

An ancient magic flew on a mystic wind

That brought to my soul a feeling of dread and

memories of evils best left long gone and dead.

The night entreated and beckoned

me to come and walk off the path I was on,

to follow the dead parade as it marched on.

Perhaps I could join in the fun

and dance with the minions

of the night who ate and drank of sweet

things they called treats.

They grinned at me from out of the dark,

but I saw the trick in their eyes

as they wiped the blood from their lips

I would not be fooled

So I ran,

faster than the wind could find me,

Faster, faster, faster I ran.

until I reached my hallowed home.

and clicked the lock shut tight.

The night retreats.

WheelofTime Memory of Light  – 14th Book in the Wheel of Time Series  by Robert Jordan/Brandon Sanderson

That’s me holding the FINAL volume of my most favorite EPIC fantasy series ever written. The First book of a total of fourteen books was first written in 1990 when I was just a wee lad…well just out of high school anyways.

This was a delayed Christmas present pre-ordered on Amazon. It had a release date of January 8th. It just came in the mail……oh yeah..

Ever hear of Lord of the Rings? Well this Story rolls over that with a Steam Roller then backs up and rolls over it again….and then over…and over…you get the picture…

If you like fantasy stories and you haven’t read the first book in the series then first you need to slap yourself. Then next put your head in a bucket of cold water, and then go to the library or scrap up some money, or fence some jewelry and go get it!

It has every thing you could wish for destiny, engaging epic characters, awesome battles, and a heart most of all…

So go check it out …nuff said beacause a movies a long time coming you lazy bastards!
